Augustana News, Christian Learning News & Youth & Family News

FROM THE PASTOR:

We have a marvelous tradition at Augustana of sending our seventh grade
confirmation students to Lutheran Lakeside Camp. I was happy to be a part of the
experience again this year. We rode together on a school bus with students from
Memorial, Nevada and joined another group from Augustana, Sioux City when we
got to camp.
Here are our campers’ reflections of the week:

“It was fun.” Magnus Anderson

“The week at Lutheran Lakeside was amazing. The cabins were nice and clean, the
Dining Hall and Worship Hall were nice and beautiful. The breakfast, lunch, and
dinners were nice and delicious. The activities and games were cool and fun.
Campfire Nights were nice because we got to sing camp songs. The scenery was
awesome, Lake Okoboji, Arnold’s Park, and all the nice, big, and expensive
looking boats and houses. The whole week was awesome with all our friends, new
friends and counselors. Lutheran Lakeside Camp was an awesome week!!”
Zach Hockemeier

“My most interesting memory from camp was when we were sailing and we tipped
the sail boat. My most awesome memory is all the people we met and all the
friends we made!” Alex Mullins

“Camp was awesome! I learned so much, I feel like I’m closer to God than I’ve
ever been. I made new friends and had one of the best experiences of my life.”
Serena Sandvig

“Good all-round experience. Met nice people.” Jacob Johnson
“I climbed the rock wall and went zip-lining, I went sailing, and met a lot of
friends including people from Nevada.” Keegan Good

“We met new friends, climbed 34 ft tower and 300 ft zip-lines. Did synchronized
swimming, archery, sailing, and karate.” Paul Solomon
“I enjoyed camp because I had awesome counselors and I liked Garrett Boelman’s
stories.” Bryon Taylor

“While I was at camp I loved meeting new people and seeing people I’ve played in
sports, and playing games and singing songs but, that’s not what we’re here for.
We’re here to learn and worship even more. So that is what Lutheran Lakeside
Camp has taught me.” Alia Mortenson

“I really enjoyed camp. I felt very comfortable around my counselors. They also
tried to answer all of my questions even if they seemed silly. We had great talks at
the end of each day. I also met some awesome new friends. We also did some fun
activities and we sang lots of fun songs. I am going to miss everybody at camp.”
Caisha Johnson

Camp @ Lutheran Lakeside was amazing. Our counselors were amazing too. AJ
was really enthusiastic. She always had energy and was an awesome climber.
Arielah was way funny and always got a laugh outta people. I loved all the songs
we sung. It was kool to be so close to God this week and I will really miss it!
Kinda have mixed feelings about going home. I want to see my family but I want
to still see my new friends too! ” Rachel Wagner

Thank you for this meaningful ministry. Pastor Dick

Eucharistic Ministry Update

It is time to update our list of persons who desire to have communion brought to them at their homes. We have a wonderful group of Lay Eucharistic Ministers just waiting to share our Lord's Meal with you. If you or someone you know is unable to come to church for a short period or long-term, please contact us and we will be pleased to bring communion to you. If you would like to have more information on this ministry, please call Pastor Dick Dahle at 432-5910.

GOD'S LOVE IS A GIFT.
GIVE IT TO SOMEONE YOU KNOW

Did you know that statistics show that over 80% of new church members say they first came because a friend, neighbor or relative invited them? Would you prayerfully consider who YOU might invite to worship with you.

Our website is augustanaboone.org and our e-mail addresses are:

Pastor Solomon - dsolomon@augustanaboone.org
Pastor Dahle - ddahle@augustanaboone.org
Church office - augustana@augustanaboone.org

Are you on Facebook? Augustana now has a Facebook group that you can join. All members of this group can start discussions, post pictures, link articles, list events, etc. If you're not on Facebook, maybe now is the time to sign up. It's easy to learn and a fun way to make cross-connections with members and others. Our church group page is called "Augustana Lutheran Church (Boone, IA)". If you search within Facebook, the group page should appear. Just click on the "join group" link and you'll be able to access the page and make posts.

GOING INTO THE HOSPITAL? If you or a loved one will soon be hospitalized, please make sure you let the hospital know you are from Augustana when you register. Due to the Federal privacy laws, if you don't identify your "church preference" as Augustana, our staff will have no way of finding out you are in the hospital. Just make sure you let the hospital know you're from the Augustana family of faith. Better yet, call the church office and let us know when and where you or your loved ones are going to be or have been hospitalized.
